In my opinion, the
program will either
merge two photos reasonably well, or not at all.
I welcome
suggestions for improvements.
I
could probably improve on the accuracy and performance of the
program, in which case i would probably want to focus my effort in a
specific area (functionality, accuracy, performance).
Improvements, and future extensions
At the moment stitch compares one whole photo with another whole photo. There is processing wastage in this, but it means that the program can be adapted to run in batch without any human intervention.
Some possibilities for development:
- Other uses:- There may be a need to stitch a number of images into a movie (match images, and then pack them into a movie)
- Increase accuracy of matching through additional processing.
- The program could probably use some additional parameters to allow users more control over the process.
- Could be adopted for other image formats.
- Create a version that could be run from the shell script
- Do performance enhancements. I could implement threading to make
use of dual core processors. I could assume computers have lots of RAM and cache more stuff. I could limit processing by getting the user to control the areas the program search for matches.
- Perform a mathematical fit to compensate for the warping introduced by the camera lense.
